Material Evolution Lab was founded by Christa Leask-Rhodes in 2016, after over ten years of working with and developing smart materials for companies in the fashion and arts industries, as well as in her personal art practice. Since then Material Evolution Lab has grown quickly, expanding to build relationships in many industries both nationwide and internationally.
We pride ourselves in our knowledge of smart materials, and the ability to apply them in a wide variety of contexts and projects. Currently we are working primarily with specialist inks and pigments whilst continually investigating, creating, and developing new technologies.
To give an idea of the huge breadth of industries we work in, examples of our previous projects include; colour change urinals for the O2 Arena in London, a heat-reactive copper clock for Commonplace Studio in the Netherlands, Pantone-referenced liquid solutions for L'Oréal perfume displays, colour change flowers for Perrier-Jouet and Bompas & Parr, touch-sensitive counter top for Wonderland fashion magazine store.
